Fetteresso Forest Mountain Biking Routes
A great place for beginners, families and those just looking for a pleasant cycle amid beautiful scenery. This quiet forest is a few miles from Stonehaven near Aberdeen. The forest joins with Drumtochty forest Distance - 3 stones loop - 5 miles (3 stones car park) Trust loop - 7.5 miles (quithel car park) Finglennie Loop - 5 mniles (quithel car park) Starting Point The most difficult thing about this route, if you are not a local, is finding the forest from Stonehaven, and then finding the right car park! For the 3 stones car park take the A957 ( locally known as the slug road) from Stonehaven signposted Banchory! after about 3 or 4 miles there is one turn to the left which is part of the local road network (taking this will take you to the swanley car park which has a 2 mile link to the Trusta trail ) ignore this and carry on for a mile or so - the forest is clearly signposted on the left. All routes are clearly signposted once you are at the car parks. terrain is great smooth forest roads, which have some good hills for thigh burning and face cooling, but nothing extreme or overly difficult just good outdoors fun! On our trip we started from the Swanley car park. 1-2 miles from the car park along the link road there were signs of well used narrow singletrack criss-crossing the main forest drive - obviously this is where the locals have made trails through the forest. I had to fight my bike as it urged me to take the narrow trails -it was a family day out! But, I'll be back soon Once you get yourself to the car park, the navigation becomes much simpler, with wide, well signposted trails courtesy of the forestry commission.
