Taysde Fife Lothian/borders Aberdeenshire Highlands Stirlingshire

the wheel wash - blairadamBlairadam forest, near Kelty - its Fife Jim, but not as we know it....

"if you wanna slip and slide and let the good times ride then go  to kelty on a rainy day" .anon

Distance – variable

Time 1 hours + depending on routes tried

Terrain –miles of wide land rover /fire track, but venture off this and you will find.. very muddy narrow single track on descents, lots of roots across the tracks

Blairadam forest near Kelty has miles or interconnecting trails which criss cross through the forest. The route quoted is one of many different variations, the best way to explore is if you see a path off the main track then give it a go – its not a big forest and even if you get a bit lost you are never far from one of the way marked trails

The route is use is to start at the small car park just off the main road rather than parking in the car park deeper in the forest. From this top car park following the winding trail (1-1.5metres wide) down into the forest – keep going downhill until you cross a wooden bridge over a stream. Shortly after this there is a narrow muddy path forking off to the right of the main path – take this and let the mud start to clog up your tyres as you slip and slide down the path

Eventually you emerge back onto the main track. Follow the purple route from here right up to the very top of the hill – about 20 minutes climbing. At the top of the purple route you will find a small electrical substation/mobile phone mast. Just after this next to some concrete blocks on the trail you will find some narrow single track going down the hill. its well hidden but well worth it.

There are so many different tracks and branches – as long as you stay within the boundary of the forest on your left you will not get lost. Eventually once you find yourself back on the main track there are plenty of variations with loads of single track to be found if you just explore.
